Most union leaders welcomed the election of Bill de Blasio as Mayor because they believed he would be a lot more sympathetic than Michael Bloomberg to the problems created by their members having worked for three years or more under expired contracts.
There is another area, one which will not strain the city’s finances, in which we would hope that he would make a difference: ending the retaliatory actions by managers in city agencies against workers who exercise their contractual rights, or become convenient targets when unions exercise those rights.
