The City Hall rally organized by StudentsFirstNY last week to protest the large number of high-school graduates from the public schools had a tinge of hypocrisy to it. The organization is an offshoot of the Success Academy charter-school network, and is run by Jenny Sedlis, who previously was the spokeswoman for Success’s founder and CEO, Eva Moskowitz.
The problem that exists of many high-school grads not being fully prepared for college work has been raised by two of Mayor de Blasio’s political foes—Sal Albanese, whom he just vanquished in the Democratic primary, and his Republican challenger in the general election, Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis.
