However much it may have been the result of tragic coincidence, it was fitting that, the day after he died of a heart attack at age 57, the New York Times published an op-ed piece by Hector Figueroa entitled, “The Labor Movement Can Rise Again.”
Noting that last year there were more American workers who went on strike than in the previous three decades, he wrote, “From teachers to aircraft cleaners, workers are showing a return to the kind of collective action that brought us Social Security, the weekend and a federally guaranteed minimum wage.
