If there was any surprise in the redacted version of the Mueller Report, it was how wide the gap was between the impression left by U.S. Attorney General William Barr’s four-page summary of its contents last month and the far-uglier details.

Even that shouldn’t have been a surprise, though. Over the course of Donald Trump’s first 27 months in office, it has become increasingly clear that most officials who get sucked into the President’s swamp of lies and evasions wind up worse off as a result. And Mr. Barr, who first held the job under President George H.W. Bush, has been no exception.
