With over 2,000 city employees in 17 different civil service titles, spread across 11 different unions, there is a lot of confusion regarding "civilian" peace officers. Most of the public does not even know that peace officers are employed by New York City agencies in such titles as TLC Inspector, Urban Park Ranger or Special Officer. The most commonly known are Traffic Agents and School Safety Agents, but there are many more who are underrepresented at the bargaining table.
