Underwood is Favored To Gain Interim Nod As Attorney General

Barbara Underwood, the State Solicitor General who replaced Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on an acting basis after he resigned following a news report that he had abused four romantic partners, was seen as the State Legislature’s likely pick to fill the remaining seven months of his term.
But a number of heavy hitters, including city Public Advocate Letitia James, 59, were setting their sights on running for a full four-year term in November. Mr. Schneiderman, 63, had been expected to win a third term easily until a story on the New Yorker magazine’s website outlining allegations that he slapped and choked the women, often while drinking heavily, forced his exit.
