Almost six years after Hurricane Sandy devastated New York City Transit’s Far Rockaway Bus Depot, workers’ complaints about hazardous workplace conditions there have prompted a State Department of Labor investigation into their concerns, THE CHIEF-LEADER has confirmed.
The facility was badly damaged by Sandy and the storm surge submerged the facility under several feet of water. Even today, workers say standing water on the site remains a major problem. The rehabilitation is also still ongoing, requiring the 130-plus workers to continue operating under makeshift conditions.
