City Settles Claim Of Bias in Psych Exams

Three former candidates for Deputy City Sheriff won settlements of more than $200,000 each in a lawsuit that charged the city discriminated against them by disqualifying them on the basis of biased psychological evaluations.
All five black members of a class of 15 were found unqualified to continue, according to attorney Eric Sanders. The three plaintiffs were among the five. The other members of the class—seven whites, two Latinos and one Asian-American—were allowed to graduate and become Deputy City Sheriffs.
