Question: A few months ago, my seat in the proverbial lap of luxury collapsed along with the Ponzi scheme in which I had been unwittingly involved. I lost everything and then some. Now, I’m barely scraping by on the salary I earn as an employee of the City of New York. My colleagues in city government are being incredibly supportive and several have made me offers that I’d like to accept. In particular, I’ve gotten a few offers to buy my car, my boss offered to let me move in with her (she’s also my girlfriend, so this isn’t as weird as it sounds), one guy offered to loan me money for the rent on my apartment, and my Commissioner’s wife offered me a part-time job at her company to earn extra cash. Would it be a problem to take some (or all) of my colleagues up on their offers?
