Public-sector employees can look forward to retirement income from their pension and Social Security that is about equal to the salary they earned during their last year of employment. We sacrificed for this and we earned it.
With that said, most of us did not want to settle for retirement at full pay. We wanted more and were willing to fund it. The city recognized the benefits of a supplemental savings plan and established various plans for us to use at our personal discretion.
