Women in Nontraditional Jobs: Progress Often Slow But Perseverance Pays Off

The progress made by women in nontraditional jobs like firefighting has been significant, yet they are still encountering gender-based discrimination in male-dominated fields, according to a panel of female trailblazers in those professions.

All of the panelists are active members of labor unions and reported a wide variance in the level of support they got from unions that have been historically dominated by male leadership.
