Kim Medina, the new executive director of District Council 1707, said that she wants to increase her union’s visibility and improve management of its finances, and as a gesture of her sincerity, cut the job’s salary to $90,000—half what her predecessor received.
“I ran because I was not comfortable with the previous administration,” Ms. Medina said in an interview May 31 at DC 1707’s West 45th St. headquarters. “Morale was low here. I wasn’t really looking to become the executive director, but I felt if I stayed quiet, I’d be just as guilty as those in charge,” she said.
