New DC 1707 Leader Takes Big Pay Cut, Vows Trimmer Union

Kim Medina, the new executive director of District Council 1707, said that she wants to increase her union’s visibility and improve management of its finances, and as a gesture of her sincerity, cut the job’s salary to $90,000—half what her predecessor received.

“I ran because I was not comfortable with the previous administration,” Ms. Me­dina said in an interview May 31 at DC 1707’s West 45th St. headquarters. “Morale was low here. I wasn’t really looking to become the executive director, but I felt if I stayed quiet, I’d be just as guilty as those in charge,” she said.
