HA Mess: Negligence, Politics or Bit of Both?

The question hanging over the City Council hearing Dec. 5 into the Housing Authority’s mishandling of required inspections for lead-paint contamination in apartments where small children live was why, if HA Chair Shola Olatoye was being truthful when she said she verbally notified Federal housing officials in September 2016 that her agency was out of compliance with inspection requirements, she signed documents a month later affirming that the inspections had been made.

The explanation emanating from the agency, according to one source, is that when she signed the document from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, “it was a very busy day and they were working on a lot of stuff.”
