Those inclined to regard Andrew Cuomo as the Duke of Duplicity should at least give him credit for not proclaiming, in light of the revelations about his underlings’ attempts to steer the Moreland Commission off the scent of his patrons, that he was “shocked, shocked! to find that manipulation is going on here.”

His first move, once the 13-page response issued in his administration’s name to the New York Times exposé of blatant attempts to interfere with an investigative body he had proclaimed to be independent got him no traction in the court of public opinion, was to retreat to his bunker for five days while the criticism rained down.
