Zadroga Act supporters had a filibuster-proof majority on their renewal bill, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney said last week, when their campaign got a nasty October surprise.
“It looked like we were sailing to passage,” she said at a Nov. 3 rally at the Silverstein Family Park in downtown Manhattan, near the site of the 9/11 attack. “And then on the day that they swore in the new [House] Speaker—Speaker Ryan—they introduced another bill. A bill that would gut and kill the program.”
