Williams Among Those Out for Repeal of Law Shielding Cop Records

A package of criminal-justice reform bills likely to be considered by state legislators following passage of the budget received an enthusiastic airing from city and state lawmakers, advocates and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams on the steps of City Hall March 21.  

The Safer New York Act would require reporting of policing, including of police-involved shootings; the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate and prosecute alleged criminal offenses by police, as well as deaths at the hands of police; ban arrests for low-level offences; and other measures.
