Competing headlines on the websites of Transport Workers Union Local 100 and the pedestrian-oriented Streetsblog last week highlighted the rift between labor and transit advocates over one provision of Mayor de Blasio’s Vision Zero law to reduce traffic deaths.
“Working Families Party Endorses Bill to De-Criminalize Bus Operator Accidents,” the Local 100 site proclaimed, referring to the party’s March 19 memo supporting a City Council bill that would exempt city Bus Operators from misdemeanor failure-to-yield charges.
