The temporary storing of the corpses of subway suicides in employee facilities turns out to be part of a much-wider problem aboveground, according to union officials representing employees of the Office of Chief Medical Examiner and the funeral industry itself.
Complaints include lengthy delays in the picking-up of bodies, mandatory overtime, stressful work conditions and low wages, all in the context of an opioid crisis that is straining the entire system.
