Union leaders celebrated while President Trump vented his frustration on Twitter after a last-ditch Senate Republican try to repeal the Affordable Care Act was thwarted by ailing U.S. Sen. John McCain’s vote early on the morning of July 28 against a replacement proposed by the GOP leadership in that body.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had hoped to send what was dubbed the “skinny repeal bill” along to the House of Representatives as the first step toward crafting a joint bill, quickly signaled that he would not pursue the matter further, despite Mr. Trump’s previous exhortations that both houses of Congress should forgo their August recess until a bill was produced.
