The union representing state Correctional Officers issued a statement last week deploring a New York Times article that said officers had beaten prisoners at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora after two convicted killers escaped.
“For days after the June prison break, corrections officers carried out what seemed like a campaign of retribution against dozens of Clinton inmates, particularly those on the honor block,” the Times reported Aug. 12 in a story written by two reporters who also have produced explosive investigative articles about problems at Rikers Island.
