John Samuelsen, the international president of the Transport Workers Union, has a warning for Democrats who think that President Trump can’t be re-elected in 2020 after his first two chaotic years in office, capped off by the longest government shutdown in American history.
“Trump is still dangerous and is still a viable candidate,” he said in a wide-ranging phone interview that also touched on what he said was a rare opportunity to use the shutdown as a “teachable moment” that could help unions regain ground they lost since 1981, when President Ronald Reagan broke the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization by firing its striking members.
