The union official who represents city subway workers strongly opposes Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance’s decision to no longer criminally prosecute most individuals who jump subway turnstiles.
Last June, Mr. Vance floated the idea of moving away from criminally prosecuting fare evasion in favor of issuing civil summonses. Earlier this year, he said he would just decline to criminally prosecute such arrests.
