A pair of city Correction Officers, a prison cook, six inmates and eight others were arrested last week for their alleged involvement in a ring that smuggled drugs and weapons into Rikers Island, said Bronx prosecutors and the city Department of Investigation.
The crew was indicted, said Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark and Department of Investigation Commissioner Mark G. Peters, for conspiring to bring scalpels, narcotics, and synthetic marijuana into the jail in exchange for thousands of dollars in bribes.
