There They Go Again: School Suspensions Up 21 Percent Last Year

The number of school suspensions increased for the first time under the de Blasio administration, because of a 21-percent spike during the first half of the 2017-2018 school year—the same period during which a 15-year-old student was stabbed to death at a Bronx high school.

The Department of Education reported that there were 49,293 suspensions, expulsions and removals from class during the most-recent school year, up from 46,571 during the 2016-17 school year, accounting for a 4-percent increase.
