Teachers are starting to feel a little better about their profession after their first full year under Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña, according to a survey released last week by the Department of Education.
In the poll that covered the 2012-13 school year, the last one fully under Mayor Michael Bloomberg, 27 percent of Teachers said they were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” when asked about the Chancellor’s performance regarding school resources, oversight, curriculum and progress in student achievement, a number that grew to 31 percent the following year. In the school year that ended last month, 39 percent answered affirmatively in the highest two categories, and another 21 percent answered they were “somewhat satisfied”—a new category added this year.
