For Alhassan Susso, 34, a History Teacher at International Community High School who emigrated from Gambia with a rare eye disease, his personal struggles fueled his desire to help immigrant children through teaching.
Born in West Africa, Mr. Susso came to the U.S. at the age of 16, where he was diagnosed with a macular degenerative disease that would leave him legally blind.
