Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro has promoted Chief John Sudnik to Chief of Department, the highest-ranking uniformed position in the FDNY.
He will succeed James E. Leonard, who retired with 39 years of service after he was relieved of his command and placed on modified duty last December.
