Storm-Tossed Windfall: HA Gets $3B in Aid Due to ‘Sandy’ Damage

The Federal Emergency Management Agency last week gave the city a $3-billion grant to repair and stormproof 33 Housing Authority developments that sustained severe damage from Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

“We got the highest award in FEMA history,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio, who announced the funding March 31 with U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer at a housing project in Red Hook, Brooklyn, which experienced a devastating 10-foot-high storm surge. “You can’t ask for anything more than that.”
