The union representing state Correction Officers is moving to block a tentative court settlement that limits the use of solitary confinement in state prisons.
The new guidelines for Special Housing Units “place the lives of prisoners, prison employees and correctional officers at risk,” Michael Powers, president of the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, said in a 3½-minute video posted Feb. 27.
