State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and his son, Adam, were arrested May 4 on charges that the Senator promised to use his political influence on behalf of companies in return for payments to his son totaling nearly $220,000.
The arrests were made on the basis of a criminal complaint filed by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who brought corruption charges in January against then-Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. Mr. Bharara’s office is also investigating Governor Cuomo in connection with his decision a year ago to abruptly disband a commission that was looking into corruption in state politics.
