Socio-emotional programming will be provided in all elementary schools and an initiative that trains staff in restorative-justice practices that is lauded by the Teachers’ union will be expanded to 50 middle schools, Mayor de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza announced June 20.
The announcement was a continuation of the Mayor’s advocacy for restorative-justice practices, which teach students how to resolve conflict and Teachers how to address students’ emotions, rather than using harsh punishments such as suspensions.
