The recent murder of James “Whitey” Bulger, one of the nation’s most-notorious criminals, in a Federal prison in West Virginia last week was linked to chronic prison short-staffing that has gotten worse during the Trump Administration, according to the union that represents workers at the facility.
The death of the 89-year-old Mr. Bulger, who was on the FBI’s Most Wanted List for 16 years, was the third inmate-on-inmate homicide in the last seven months at the USP Hazelton, a maximum-security facility which currently houses just under 1,400 inmates.
