Parents, Teachers and education advocates made one last push to save 18 schools from closing or merging at a Feb. 21 rally outside of the Department of Education’s headquarters.
In December, the city proposed to shut down 14 schools at the end of the school year, including nine low-performing ones that were part of the Renewal program, which provided additional funding for resources such as an additional hour of classes and mental-health services. An additional five schools are targeted to merge.
