Jeremy Reichberg, a major contributor to Bill de Blasio’s first mayoral campaign and later his committee for pet projects who was convicted in January of a string of bribery charges involving top NYPD officials, was sentenced May 13 to four years in Federal prison. The strongest evidence against him was the testimony of his former business partner, Jona Rechnitz.
In return for the bribes, Mr. Rechnitz and Mr. Reichberg got assistance from ranking officers in quashing arrests and getting gun licenses for themselves or friends in the Orthodox Jewish community of Borough Park, Brooklyn. They also got smaller benefits including a “flyover” by an NYPD helicopter buzzing a boat carrying Mr. Reichberg and some of his associates that was arranged by then-Deputy Inspector James Grant, according to testimony at the trial of the two men.
