The Queens Borough Public Library is demanding that its former CEO, Thomas Galante, pay back $460,000 in questionable spending and attorney fees, according to legal papers filed Feb. 5 in Brooklyn Federal Court.
The filing, first reported by the Daily News, was the library’s response to a lawsuit by the former executive in November, who is seeking more than $2 million in severance pay that he said was owed to him under his employment contract. But the Queens Library said in its counterclaim that it had cause to fire him, and that he should pay back at least $200,000 he spent on suspicious purchases and $260,000 for a legal firm representing the ousted CEO. It also asked the court to order him to return library-owned property, including a desktop computer, iPhone and tablets.
