Police Officer Justin Damico, testifying in Officer Daniel Pantaleo’s disciplinary trial May 21, on two occasions deflected prompts from a prosecuting attorney that Mr. Pantaleo had used a chokehold on Eric Garner during the encounter that would ultimately lead to the Staten Island man’s death.
“It was around his body,” Officer Damico said in response to prosecutor Suzanne O’Hare’s assertion, using stills from video, that Officer Pantaleo was using the department-prohibited technique to effect Mr. Garner’s submission to arrest.
