Though threatened layoffs of 80 Parks Enforcement Patrol Officers were taken off the table in the Mayor’s executive-budget proposal, City Council Members warned that the spending plan for the fiscal year beginning in July put at risk the jobs of 150 Gardeners and Maintenance Workers.
The de Blasio administration must restore $8.7 million to fund the positions or affected workers will be laid off by the Parks Department next month, Councilman Mark Levine, the Parks Committee Chair, said during a May 26 budget hearing. The Council and the Mayor are expected to finish negotiations before the end of the month.
