As a Fire Chief, Daniel Nigro was a big supporter of bringing the city’s Emergency Medical Service—then part of the Health and Hospitals Corporation—into the FDNY when he was tapped to lead the change in 1996. Now, as Fire Commissioner, he has the satisfaction of leading its 20th-anniversary celebration.
