City Board of Elections Executive Director Michael Ryan came under fire again April 22, with Public Advocate Jumaane Williams renewing a call for his resignation while City Council Member Ritchie Torres urged an independent probe by the Department of Investigation.
At issue this time is Mr. Ryan’s effort on behalf of Election Systems and Software, the city’s election-machine vendor, to get permission from the New York State Board of Elections to bypass the regular vetting process and let the city use the company’s new Expressvote XL voting machine for 2020, when state voters for the first time will have the option of early voting.
