Since Police Officer Simone Teagle returned to work after giving birth to her first child, she says, the NYPD has given her nothing but trouble over her desire to pump breast milk so that her son can be fed while she is at work.
Her bosses at the 113th Precinct in Jamaica, Queens have ignored a provision of the Affordable Care Act requiring that nursing mothers be given adequate break time to pump milk as well as “a place, other than a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from co-workers and the public,” said her attorney, Eric Sanders, who has filed a notice of claim of her intent to sue the city for $5 million.
