NYPD Wins in Court On Cop Discipline Records

A years-long effort by the New York Civil Liberties Union to force the NYPD to publicly disclose officers’ disciplinary records has been quashed by the state’s highest court.

In a 5-2 decision, the Court of Appeals Dec. 11 ruled that the records were exempt from disclosure under a state civil rights law that deems personnel records of police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and corrections and peace officers “confidential," and thus cannot be inspected or reviewed without written consent of the person in question.
