Many of those promoted by the NYPD at a May 7 ceremony found themselves obscured by big-name upgrades that included Dermot F. Shea becoming Chief of Detectives, succeeding the retiring Robert K. Boyce; Lori Pollock replacing Mr. Shea as Chief of Crime Control Strategies after commanding the Personnel Bureau’s Candidate Assessment Division, and Mayor de Blasio’s former Communications Director, Phillip T. Walzak, becoming Deputy Commissioner for Public Information as Stephen Davis retired.
But an additional 48 uniformed employees and 38 civilian workers also received upgrades.
