The NYPD plans to promote some Sergeants to Lieutenant despite widespread charges of cheating on the exam, but an attorney for some Sergeants who sued over the test said last week that he would challenge those promotions in court.
The cheating allegations arose after fewer than 7 percent of the 2,401 test-takers passed the initial test April 18, 2015, but 48 percent of the 80 who took the makeup test passed it five weeks later. That exam was given for those who were sick, had religious commitments or were on military duty on the day of the original test.
