A City Council response to Mayor de Blasio’s proposed budget that includes an additional 1,000 officers for the NYPD is drawing fire from advocates of police reform.
“While there has been a focus on the issue of ‘police-community relations,’ there has not been enough attention paid to addressing the concrete and underlying issues of discriminatory and abusive policing,” stated a letter sent to City Council Members on April 15 that was signed by about 60 community groups.
