A significant increase in the number of reported rapes citywide shared attention with what was otherwise another record low in overall crime citywide last year during a Jan. 3 Police Department press conference.
Killings, shootings, robberies, burglaries and stolen cars were all down from already-low numbers in 2017, according to the NYPD. Despite slight increases in felony assaults and grand larcenies, there were 1,245 fewer incidents last year than in 2017, a decrease of 1.3 percent, officials said.
