City Councilman Peter F. Vallone Jr. is looking to close a loophole in the law that requires the Police Department to report crimes in city parks larger than one acre, saying that the NYPD has violated the measure’s spirit by claiming a lack of resources and technology.
The law required the NYPD to report crime in the 870 parks larger than one acre, but seven years later Mr. Vallone’s Public Safety Committee is getting statistics on only the 31 biggest parks.
