An attorney for a former Correction Department Captain convicted three years ago in connection with the brutal beating of a Rikers Island inmate says new evidence as well as recent affidavits from witnesses prove his client’s innocence.
The former Captain, Gerald Vaughn, was sentenced to 5 ½ years in prison after he was found guilty of assault charges in 2016 for ordering the beating.
