New Revelations That HA Kept Its Tenants In Dark on Lead Risk

The decision not to inform the public that it hadn’t inspected 55,000 apartments that could have potentially have lead contamination continues to haunt the Housing Authority. The Daily News reported Dec. 26 that between 2013 and 2015—covering the final year of the Bloomberg ad­min­is­tra­tion and the first two years of Mayor de Blasio’s term—the agency did not tell families moving into apartments that were abated for lead paint that they’d previously tested positive for the hazardous substance.

During that period, NYCHA inspected 3,097 apartments for lead paint—mostly when residents moved out—and 1,604 tested positive.
