Thousands of firefighters stood at attention outside the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church in Marine Park, Brooklyn, Jan. 11 as the Fire Department truck bearing the body of Firefighter Steven Pollard inched by.
He died in the line of duty five days earlier, responding to a multi-car accident on the Mill Basin Bridge, just east of Flatbush, after he fell more than 50 feet through a hole in the roadway. A second-generation city Firefighter, he was 30 and had recently completed his probationary period at Ladder Company 170.
