There were overtones of sadness to the NYPD’s annual Medal Day June 9. Among the 40 honorees were four officers who died in the line of duty, two by gunshot, one from injuries sustained in a fire and one in a traffic accident.
A fifth officer, Brian Moore, who succumbed May 4 after being shot by an ex-con he stopped who was carrying a concealed weapon, was not part of this year’s ceremony. The NYPD said he will be honored next year.
